Chandigarh, April 16 -- The Indian National Congress on Thursday took a stringent disciplinary step by suspending five of its Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) in Haryana with immediate effect.
The decision follows allegations of serious organizational indiscipline during the Rajya Sabha elections held on March 16. The state unit's President, Rao Narender Singh, confirmed that the action was initiated after it was discovered that these legislators allegedly cross-voted in favor of the BJP-backed candidate, Satish Nandal, defying the party's official mandate.
