New Delhi, Oct. 26 -- The Congress today sharply criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi for misleading the people of Bihar by promising 12,000 trains for Chhath Puja festival-a deeply revered celebration in the state-only to run a fraction of that number.

Speaking at a press conference, Congress Rajya Sabha MP Akhilesh Prasad Singh and party media coordinator Abhay Dubey condemned the government's failure to deliver on its assurance.

"Instead of 12,000 trains, only 1,500 were operational," Akhilesh Prasad said. "Millions of devotees endured immense hardship; many were forced to travel in train toilets.
