Pune, March 24 -- The Congress party has begun internal preparations for a potential by-election in Baramati, following the vacancy caused by the demise of NCP leader and former Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar.
At a key meeting held on Tuesday at the Pune Congress Bhavan, leaders of the Pune District Congress discussed the party's strategy and unanimously expressed willingness to contest the bypoll scheduled on April 23.
A formal proposal has been forwarded by the district Congress committee to the Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee, seeking approval to enter the electoral fray.
