Shimla, Aug. 29 -- The Himachal Pradesh Assembly today witnessed passionate interventions by Congress legislators during zero hour, as they demanded due recognition for two sons of the soil -- Ram Singh Pathania, who fought against the colonial British in 1857, and Agniveer Arun Kumar, who recently laid down his life at Siachen.
Raising the matter, Bhawani Singh Pathania said Ram Singh Pathania, commander of the Sikh regiment of Nurpur, organized a force of local fighters and Sikh soldiers against the East India Company. He freed the Nurpur forts, launched guerrilla warfare with cavalry raids, and declared open defiance of the colonial authority.
