New Delhi, Dec. 20 -- Congress leader Jairam Ramesh Saturday alleged that the government's push for the SHANTI Bill, which opens India's nuclear sector to private players, is linked to US pressure on nuclear liability rules.
Ramesh pointed to a reference in the US National Defence Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2026, which mentions a joint assessment between the US and India on nuclear liability rules.
"The SHANTI Bill is actually the TRUMP Bill - The Reactor Use and Management Promise Act," Ramesh wrote on X, suggesting the legislation is aimed at pleasing US President Donald Trump.
