Thiruvananthapuram, May 4 -- Early trends in the counting of votes for the 2026 Kerala Assembly elections indicate a strong lead for the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF), which is ahead in 84 seats, while the CPI(M)-led Left Democratic Front (LDF) is leading in 51 seats and the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in 5 seats, according to initial trends as counting progressed on Monday.

The counting process began at 8 a.m. across 140 constituencies at 43 centres under tight security arrangements, with postal ballots taken up first before the counting of votes recorded in Electronic Voting Machines.
