Wayanad, Sept. 12 -- Congress leader and Mullankolly Panchayat (Second- ward) member Jose Nelledam (57) commited suicide by jumping into a pond near his house at Perikollur.
Initial reports said, prior to the act, he consumed poison and cut the veins on his left wrist. His body was found in the pond by locals.
Reports said Jose, who was under severe stress following the controversial arrest of Pulpally Congress Committee Ward President Kannattumala Thankachan on August 22, ended his life today.
Thankachan was arrested in connection with the recovery of five litres of illicit liquor and explosive materials from the car shed at his house.
