New Delhi, Dec. 22 -- Congress leader Ajoy Kumar on Monday demanded that safety fareshields (Kavach) be installed across all railway lines in the country to protect passengers. He also called for the reinstatement of senior citizen concessions in the railways and urged Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw to resign, blaming him for the deteriorating condition of the Indian Railways.

Kumar launched a scathing critique of the Modi government, accusing it of treating the railways as a "tool for extortion" rather than a public service. Speaking at a press briefing following recent announcements of fare hikes, he described the move as a "cynical New Year's gift" to the common man.
