Shimla, Nov. 3 -- A fresh wave of discontent is sweeping through the Shimla Municipal Corporation (SMC) as several Congress councillors have expressed open resentment over the state government's sudden move to extend the tenure of the Mayor and Deputy Mayor from two and a half to five years through an ordinance.
The decision, taken hastily and without prior consultation, has left many Congress councillors, particularly those aspiring for the two top posts, deeply dissatisfied and politically restless.
According to party sources, the mayoral term was due to end on November 15, and the post was expected to be reserved for an SC woman, while the Deputy Mayor's post was to go to a general category male councillor.
