Palakkad, March 28 -- The Congress party on Saturday expelled Palakkad Municipal Councillor Prashob C. Valsalan following sexual harassment allegations filed by a Dalit woman during the Kerala assembly election campaign.

District Congress Committee President A. Thankappan said the expulsion, directed by the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC), comes after the woman lodged complaints with Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and the district police chief.

Police recorded her statement on Saturday. Prashob Valsalan is currently absconding.

Thankappan urged other political parties to uphold similar standards of political morality by taking prompt action against members facing serious sexual misconduct allegations.
