Aizawl, June 9 -- The Congress party in southern Mizoram's Mara region has demanded the resignation of M. Laikaw, Chief Executive Member (CEM) of the BJP-led Mara Autonomous District Council (MADC), alleging that he was born in neighbouring Myanmar and is therefore ineligible to hold his current post.

The Mara District Congress Committee (MDCC) on Monday said Laikaw's birthplace-Thiahratlah village in Myanmar-disqualifies him under council rules, which state that a candidate must be born within the area of the erstwhile Pawi-Lakher Regional Council, now part of Mizoram.
