Kolkata, May 30 -- The Congress on Friday announced its candidate for the upcoming by-election to West Bengal's Kaliganj Assembly constituency in Nadia district, putting an end to speculation about its support for the Left Front in the polls.
The Congress in a media release said Kabil Uddin Ahmed would be its nominee for the seat.
Interestingly, only two days back, CPI(M) West Bengal secretary Mohammed Salim had announced the party's intention to field a candidate for the by-election, scheduled next month, and expressed hopes of securing support from the Congres. He cited the party's performance in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections as a motivating factor behind the decision.
