Nagpur, Dec. 23 -- The Congress on Tuesday alleged that the implementation of the VB-G Ram G Act in place of the 'Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme' (MGNREGA) has effectively ended the concept of guaranteed employment in rural areas.
Addressing the media in Nagpur, All India Congress Committee(AICC) national spokesperson Abhishek Datt said that under MGNREGA, employment was provided on demand through Gram Panchayats and district councils.
However, under the new law, the authority to decide where and when employment will be provided rests entirely with the central government, he alleged.
This change, he said, has ended the demand-based nature of rural employment.
