Bengaluru, Jan. 10 -- Karnataka BJP President Vijayendra Yediyurappa on Saturday launched a sharp attack on the Congress, accusing the party of opposing reforms in rural welfare schemes and spreading misinformation about the Centre's initiatives, including proposed changes to the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA).

Speaking at a joint press conference with JDS leader HD Kumaraswamy, Vijayendra said the Congress had "never believed in welfare schemes", but instead "thrived on scams" during its tenure in power. "The Congress party always believed in scams, not schemes. Because of the scams during the UPA government, India could not emerge as a developed nation," he alleged.
