Buldhana, Sept. 27 -- Maharashtra Congress president Harshwardhan Sapkal today announced that the party will launch a statewide agitation on October 3, alleging that the state government's aid package for rain-hit farmers is grossly inadequate.
Sapkal, who toured flood-affected villages in Buldhana, said crop losses are widespread, but the relief announced would not even provide farmers with Rs 3,000 per hectare.
He demanded the declaration of a "wet drought," compensation of Rs 50,000 per hectare, Rs 2 lakh per acre for land washed away, free seeds and fertilisers for the Rabi season, and a comprehensive loan waiver.
