Bengaluru, Jan. 9 -- As India moves towards becoming the world's third-largest economy, union Minister Pralhad Joshi on Thursday accused the Congress of opposing transparency-driven reforms in the rural employment guarantee programme, alleging that the party was resisting changes aimed at ending corruption and middlemen-driven practices.

Addressing a press conference here, Joshi defended the Centre's Vikasit Bharat Employment Guarantee and Livelihood Mission (VB-G RAM G), saying the revamped framework strengthens rural employment while ensuring creation of durable assets and accountability in wage payments.

He challenged the Congress to explain the moral and ethical basis of its call for protests against the scheme from January 10.
