Thiruvananthapuram, Aug. 25 -- The Congress party today suspended Palakkad MLA Rahul Mankootathil from its primary membership for six months following multiple allegations of sexual misconduct.
Announcing the decision, KPCC President Sunny Joseph said the suspension strips the legislator of his party privileges, though he will continue to hold his position as MLA. Party sources indicated that Mankootathil may not attend the upcoming session of the Kerala Assembly, as he has been advised to take leave.
The move comes amid mounting calls within the party for his resignation as legislator. Earlier, Mankootathil had stepped down as state president of the Youth Congress after the allegations surfaced.
