Cong Dalit leaders unite ahead of quota report
Bengaluru, Aug. 3 -- In a show of solidarity ahead of a politically sensitive report on internal reservation among Scheduled Castes (SCs), senior Dalit leaders of the Congress in Karnataka have resolved to stay united and avoid infighting that could derail long-pending caste-based quota reforms.
This comes when Justice HN Nagamohandas Commission is scheduled to submit its much-anticipated report to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. The report, based on empirical data of 101 Scheduled Castes, is expected to recommend redistribution of internal quotas based on relative population and social backwardness, potentially triggering discontent among dominant and underrepresented SC sub-groups.
