Shillong, May 16 -- The Confederation of Meghalaya Social Organisations (COMSO) has demanded an independent judicial inquiry into the tragic death of a nursing student at Imphal's Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in Manipur.
Abiel Salchiana Ch Marak, a 21-year-old fourth-semester BSc student, was found hanging in her hostel room on May 14.
In a memorandum submitted to Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla, COSMO said, "This heartbreaking incident has not only shaken the confidence of students and their families, but has also raised critical questions about institutional ethics, sensitivity, and inclusiveness.
