Hyderabad, Dec. 30 -- A round-table meeting on drinking and irrigation water projects called for expediting the completion of all large, medium and minor irrigation works to provide water to the remaining 54 lakh acres in Telangana.

The meeting, organised by the Telangana State Farmers' Association as part of CPI centenary celebrations, was held on Tuesday at Makhdoom Bhavan, Himayat Nagar.

Speakers demanded that major projects be completed within two years, stalled ITC lift irrigation schemes and borewells be revived, and pending lift irrigation projects prioritised with adequate funding.

The meeting noted that while the state's intended irrigation capacity is 127.57 lakh acres, only 73.57 lakh acres has been achieved so far.
