Chennai, May 14 -- The Southern Railway on Wednesday imposed a fine of
Rs one lakh on Ernakulam Base kitchen following complaints of old and poor
quality food and recommended stringent action against the firm by the IRCTC.
In a statement here clarifying on the complaints, the railways said media reports
alleged about the supply of old/expired food by a base kitchen being run by Catering
Contractor of IRCTC and Railways near Ernakulam station.
Acting on the reports, it said as found during inspection by health officials of Kochi
Municipal Corporation, a high-level committee of Senior Officers comprising Divisional
Commercial Manager/Thiruvananthapuram, Health Officer/Thiruvananthapuram, and
Area Manager/IRCTC has been constituted to ...
