Mumbai, Sept. 30 -- In a major relief measure, the Maharashtra government has authorized district collectors to provide assistance to farmers affected by excessive rainfall and floods directly from the annual plan funds.
Until now, collectors had to wait for orders from Mumbai, but this decision enables them to act swiftly in disaster-hit areas.
Previously, these funds could only be used during drought or scarcity situations. With the revised guidelines, up to five percent of the annual plan allocation can now be utilized to support farmers impacted by natural calamities such as floods and heavy rains.
District collectors in Parbhani, Amravati, Akola, Dharashiv, Solapur, and across Marathwada will now be able to extend immediate help.
