Kolkata, Dec. 7 -- A day after the temperature touched 14.5 degrees, the lowest in the year, there was a slight improvement in Kolkata's cold spell on Sunday, even as the Alipore Meteorological Office forecast minor fluctuations in mercury levels across West Bengal over the next week.

Saturday was the coldest day of the season so far. The minimum temperature in the city had fallen sharply by three degrees to settle at 14.5 degrees Celsius, which was 2.1 degrees below normal.

However, the minimum rose marginally to 15.2 degrees Celsius, still 1.4 degrees below the usual average for this time of the year today.
