Kochi, Aug. 22 -- Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL), India's largest shipbuilding and ship repair company, has laid the keel for a next generation hybrid Service Operation Vessel (SOV) being constructed for UK-based North Star Shipping (Aberdeen) Ltd.
The 68-metre hybrid electric vessel, designed in collaboration with Norwegian ship designer VARD AS, is the first of two SOVs the CSL is building for the UK company.
Classified under DNV, the vessel will feature a battery-based hybrid power management system, electric cycloidal propulsion for enhanced manoeuvrability, and a state-of-the-art walk-to-work gangway to ensure safe personnel transfers in offshore environments.
