Kolkata, Nov. 21 -- The Enforcement Directorate (ED), probing the coal smuggling case from state-run coal belts in West Bengal and neighbouring Jharkhand state, began massive search operations in at least 40 places across the two states, including the properties of businessman and strongman Narendra Kharka's houses and office at Salt Lake in the city.

Official sources, the federal agency officials, aided by the Central Armed Forces, began search operations from the early hours in about 24 locations, including those in Kolkata, North 24 Parganas, Purulia, Asansol, Howrah, Durgapur, in relation to coal smuggling from state-run mines, transportation, and storing houses across the state.
