Kochi, Oct. 16 -- In a landmark move for India's shipbuilding sector, the CMA CGM Group, a global leader in shipping and logistics, has signed a Letter of Intent (LoI) with Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL) to construct six advanced 1,700 TEU dual-fuel LNG-powered containerships in India.
With this agreement, CMA CGM becomes the first major international container shipping company to order LNG vessels from an Indian shipyard.
The project, to be undertaken with the technical cooperation of Korean shipbuilder HD Hyundai Heavy Industries, marks a major milestone in India's maritime development and will see the vessels registered under the Indian flag. Deliveries are expected between 2029 and 2031.
