Kolkata, Oct. 12 -- Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee began her second round of visits to flood and landslide-affected areas in North Bengal today.
She arrived in Alipurduar and interacted with residents of the Nil Para Forest area under Jaigaon Police Station to assess the situation first-hand.
Speaking to reporters, Ms Banerjee said that timely evacuation by the administration had averted loss of lives in Alipurduar district.
"There has been no report of any death here because the administration acted promptly and shifted people from vulnerable areas before the water level rose. A group of local people also extended timely help and rescued several families, preventing a major tragedy," she said.
