Belagavi, Aug. 6 -- Karnataka Police today arrested a 22-year-old cleric for allegedly raping a minor girl inside a mosque in Belagavi district nearly two years back.
The incident, which reportedly occurred on October 5, 2023, came to light after a video was posted online by a right-wing activist.
Superintendent of Police Bheemashankar S Guled identified the accused as Tufel Ahamed Dadapeer Nagarachi, a resident of Mahalingapura in Bagalkot district.
The Belagavi district police took cognisance of a video shared on social media platform X by activist Puneeth Kerehalli, who alleged that the girl's father was pressured by mosque authorities not to report the matter.
