Kolkata, Dec. 24 -- Violence erupted in Thakurnagar, the administrative headquarters of the influential Matua community in West Bengal, as rival groups aligned with union Minister of Shipping and BJP MP Shantanu Thakur and Trinamool Congress Rajya Sabha MP Mamatabala Thakur clashed over the contentious issue of voter list revisions on Wednesday.

The confrontation highlighted growing tensions within the Matua community following the alleged deletion of nearly one lakh Matua voters' names from the electoral rolls after the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise conducted in the state.
