New Delhi, Nov. 25 -- Newly appointed Chief Justice of India (CJI) Justice Surya Kant has called for a paradigm shift in the Indian legal system, urging a decisive move away from colonial-era practices toward a justice-driven, people-centric, and indigenous jurisprudence.
His remarks, made shortly after taking charge as the 53rd Chief Justice of India, reflect a strong commitment to making the judiciary more accessible, inclusive, and rooted in Indian realities.
Justice Kant emphasised that the time has come for India to build "swadeshi jurisprudence", stating that the judiciary must evolve beyond the structures inherited from British rule.
