Mumbai, May 18 -- Chief Justice of India BR Gavai on Sunday expressed displeasure over the absence of senior Maharashtra government officials, including the Chief Secretary, during his first public event in the state after taking over as head of the Supreme Court, and remarked that all three pillars of democracy are equal and must show respect to one another.

"It's a question of respect by the other organs of the institution to the judiciary," said CJI Gavai, addressing a felicitation programme organised here in his honour.
