Imphal, Dec. 25 -- Christmas was celebrated across Manipur on Thursday with prayers, carol singing and community gatherings, as people marked the birth of Jesus Christ.

Churches across the state were illuminated and decorated, with masses drawing large congregations. Special prayers were offered for peace, unity and wellbeing of the people, particularly in view of the challenges faced by the state over the past year.

Despite the prevailing situation, the festive spirit was evident as families exchanged greetings, shared meals and participated in charitable activities.
