New Delhi/ Beijing, Sept. 29 -- China has chosen Dead to Rights, directed by Shen Ao, as its official submission for the Best International Feature Film category at the 98th Academy Awards, according to Variety.
Written by Shen Ao, Zhang Ke, and Xu Luyang, the film is set against the harrowing backdrop of the 1937 Nanjing Massacre and is based on documented historical events.
It follows A Chang (played by Liu Haoran of the Detective Chinatown franchise), a postman who assumes the identity of a photo developer to survive under Japanese occupation.
Operating from within a Japanese-controlled studio, A Chang covertly shelters Chinese soldiers and civilians, engaging in a quiet but courageous form of resistance.
