London, July 4 -- China's Wang Xinyu lost to Zeynep Sonmez of Turkiye 7-5, 7-5 in the women's singles second round at Wimbledon.

Both players broke back and forth in the first set until Sonmez clinched the win. After they tied at 5-5 in the second set, Sonmez played more aggressively to seal the victory on Thursday.

"I think she played exceptionally well today, especially in her service returns and baseline game. I didn't get any easy points," Wang said after the match.
