Beijing, Dec. 27 -- Tensions between Washington and Beijing escalated over the supply of weapons to Taiwan, as China imposed sanctions on 20 US defence-related companies and 10 senior executives involved in arms sales to Taiwan in recent years.

The countermeasures include freezing the movable and immovable properties and other assets of the companies and senior executives within China, prohibiting organisations and individuals in China from engaging in transactions, cooperation, and other activities with them, and barring the executives from entering China including the Hong Kong and Macao Special Administrative Regions, according to the Foreign Ministry.
