Beijing, May 10 -- China and the United States held high-level negotiations on the economy and trade in the Swiss city of Geneva on Saturday, state-run China Central Television (CCTV) reported.

The talks between Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng and US Secretary of the Treasury Scott Bessent began at 10:00 a.m. local time (08:00 GMT).

The Chinese Commerce Ministry said ahead of the meeting that Beijing was open to dialogue on tariffs with the US but would firmly safeguard its interests while upholding the established order of global trade.
