Kolkata, March 26 -- In a significant development, West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee's flight was unable to land at Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport on Thursday afternoon due to severe storm and heavy rainfall.

Sources in the airport said that the flight - that has been in the air for more than an hour- has been denied permission to land because of deteriorating weather conditions, including intense rainfall and gusty winds in and around the airport area, which is not good for a safe landing.

According to Air Traffic Control (ATC) officials, clearance for landing cannot be granted unless weather conditions improve. If the situation persists, the aircraft may be diverted to a nearby airport.
