Gorakhpur/Ghazipur, Oct. 28 -- The festive spirit of Chhath Mahaparv turned into tragedy in Gorakhpur today morning when two persons, including a teenager, drowned in separate incidents during ritual bathing and offerings in the Gola and Barhalganj areas.

In the first incident, 35-year-old Chandan, son of Babulal from Dandi Khas village in the Gola area, drowned in a pond around 6 am while offering arghya (ritual offering) with local devotees.

According to witnesses, Chandan entered the pond to take a bath after the offering, but slipped and fell into deep water. Despite villagers' attempts to rescue him, he could not be saved.
