Chennai, Nov. 3 -- Officials of the Customs Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) have foiled andinnovative bid to smuggle gold to the tune of Rs 2.8 crores at the Anna International airporthere and arrested five passengers who arrived from Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia.
Those arrested included three women and all of them travelled in the same flight.
A PIB release today said based on intelligence developed by AIU officers, a lady passengerwho arrived from Kuala Lumpur was intercepted.
On examination, five numbers of cut gold bars of 24K purity, with foreign marking, weighing2,460 gms and valued at Rs. 2.80 crores, were found concealed on her person.
