Chennai, March 18 -- A check dam will be constructed at Thenpennai river
(South Pennar River), which is the second longest river in Tamil Nadu, to
prevent flooding, Water Resources Minister Duraimurugan told the State
Assembly on Tuesday.
Replying to a query by Deputy Speaker K Pitchandi during Question Hour, in this
regard, he said steps would be taken to construct a check dam in South Pennar
river, which had witnessed flooding due to heavy rains under the influence of
Cyclone Fengal recently, to prevent flooding.
He also said a Special plan will be formulated to prevent flooding at Sathanur
Dam in Tiruvannamalai district.
