Agra, Sept. 16 -- A fire broke out early Tuesday morning in a house located in the Laxmi Nagar area of Agra's Jagdishpura police station limits, resulting in the death of an elderly couple, police said.

The blaze reportedly started from an electric scooter that was left charging overnight and exploded due to a short circuit, police sources said.

They said the fire occurred around 4am at the residence of Pramod Agrawal, who lived there with his family. While Pramod and his family were on the upper floor, his 95-year-old father, Bhagwati Prasad Agrawal, and 85-year-old mother, Urmila Devi, were sleeping in a room on the ground floor.
