Shimla, April 12 -- Former Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition Jai Ram Thakur on Saturday accused the state government of undermining maternal healthcare by imposing charges on medical services, alleging that the move reflects a shift away from welfare-oriented governance.
In a statement issued from Shimla, Thakur said that National Safe Motherhood Day, observed on the birth anniversary of Kasturba Gandhi, is meant to honour her contributions to women's health, sanitation and social service, and to promote awareness about maternal and child welfare across the country.
