Chandigarh, Dec. 24 -- The political equation in the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation witnessed a major shift on Wednesday, weeks before the mayoral election, after two women councillors of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) joined the BJP. The development has strengthened the BJP's position, making it the single largest party in the civic body.
AAP councillors Suman Devi and Poonam Devi formally joined the BJP in the presence of former Chandigarh mayor Sarabjit Kaur and BJP councillor Kanwar Rana. The induction comes ahead of the mayoral election scheduled for January.
