Chandigarh, Oct. 18 -- A goshala (cow shelter) in Sector 45 of Chandigarh has prepared two lakh eco-friendly lamps made from cow dung, infused with traditional havan (sacred fire) materials, for Diwali.

Distribution of these lamps began on Dhanteras. Sumit Sharma, Chairman of Gauri Shankar Seva Dal, which runs the goshala, said the aim is to encourage residents to use cow dung lamps instead of conventional clay ones, promoting natural light and environmentally sustainable practices.

The goshala has also crafted cow dung idols of Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Ganesha, which are being distributed to devotees. Vice-president Vinod Kumar said their goal is to promote an 'eco-friendly Diwali' in Chandigarh by reaching as many people as possible.
