Chandigarh, Jan. 29 -- In a sweeping victory for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Saurabh Joshi was elected as the 29th Mayor of Chandigarh on Thursday. The victory was bolstered by a significant collapse of the AAP-Congress alliance, which had previously held a unified front in the Municipal Corporation elections.
Saurabh Joshi secured the mayoral post by polling 18 votes, comfortably defeating Aam Aadmi Party's (AAP) Yogesh Dhingra, who received 11 votes, and Congress candidate Gurpreet Singh Gabi, who managed only 7.
