Lucknow, Sept. 25 -- In a dramatic pre-dawn encounter today in the Jankipuram area of Lucknow, police shot and injured a chain snatcher who had allegedly caused the death of a 42-year-old man during a robbery.
The injured accused, identified as Arvind Verma, was arrested, while his accomplice managed to escape under the cover of darkness.
According to DCP East, Shashank Singh, the incident unfolded following a tip-off about two suspects riding a white Apache motorcycle in Jankipuram.
When police attempted to stop them, the two opened fire. In the retaliatory firing, one of the suspects was shot in the leg and captured. A country-made pistol and cartridges were recovered from the scene.
