Lucknow, April 19 -- In a major boost to the distressed potato farmers of Uttar Pradesh, the Centre has taken a landmark decision of procurement of potatoes from the state.
Alongside potatoes purchase from UP, the Central government will also procure chana from Andhra Pradesh, and extension of the tur (pigeon pea) procurement timeframe in Karnataka.
These strategic approvals, personally greenlit by union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare, and Rural Development, Shivraj Singh Chouhan are designed to guarantee that farmers receive fair and remunerative prices for their hard-earned produce.
