Hyderabad, Oct. 18 -- Telangana BC Welfare Minister Ponnam Prabhakar urged the Centre today to immediately approve the state's proposal for providing 42 per cent reservation to Backward Classes (BCs) in local body elections.

In a video statement, the Minister said the Telangana government had already conducted a comprehensive caste survey and passed a law in the state legislative Assembly to ensure fair representation for BCs. The bill, cleared by the Governor, has been pending with the President since March 30, he noted.

Ponnam said that despite support from all political parties, the Centre has remained silent on the issue, delaying its implementation. He also pointed out that the state has faced financial hurdles for the last two years...
