New Delhi/Shimla, Dec. 3 -- The union Government on Wednesday underlined that the timely execution of the country's most strategically important railway project-the Bilaspur-Manali-Leh rail line-depends heavily on the cooperation of the Himachal Pradesh and Punjab governments, particularly in land acquisition and the fulfilment of state commitments.

Responding to a Lok Sabha question raised by Himachal Pradesh MP Anurag Singh Thakur, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said the 489-km Manali-Leh rail corridor, designated as a national defence line by the Ministry of Defence, has completed its survey and Detailed Project Report with an estimated cost of Rs 1.31 lakh crore.
