Nagpur, Dec. 8 -- Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis today informed that the central government has rejected the "Shakti" Bill that had introduced stringent provisions to combat crimes against women, passed unanimously by the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government in 2020-21.

He made this announcement at a press conference ahead of the winter session of the Maharashtra Legislature.

Fadnavis explained that the "Shakti Bill" was returned by the central government because some of its provisions overlapped with constitutional rights, while others had already been incorporated into central laws.

The central government has introduced three new criminal laws with strict provisions, which he said are similar to those in the "Shakti Bill"....
